Unbeknownst to many, there are several different sub branches within the field of physical therapy. No matter the type of physical therapy, the primary focus is to restore function and mobility. Below, we review the five main branches so that you may find the one that is most appropriate for your needs.

This is the most common form and the one that most people associate with when they think of physical therapy; its focus is on the musculoskeletal system.  Those whom suffer from conditions that deal with the muscles, ligaments, tendons, nerves, and bones will benefit from this type of therapy.

Individuals whom are affected from neurological diseases such as Parkinson’s and cerebral palsy also benefit from this form of physical therapy. Physical therapists will see patients whom face issues with vision impairment, paralysis, and difficulty walking.

Like the name implies, this branch of physical therapy deals with the treatment of those under eighteen years of age. Pediatric physical therapy also assists with prevention and early detection of health issues. Physical therapists may see patients whom suffer from cerebral palsy or developmental delays.
